District 5960 Peace Project

Protecting the Environment

What is it?    A turnkey project for our Rotary Clubs

Why do you call this a peace project?

We are Rotarians; we look for problems.

What is the Problem?

  • At most 5% of end-of-life lithium-ion batteries are recycled.
  • The domestic supply chain for raw battery materials is insecure.
  • Increase of domestic remanufacturing need for lithium-ion batteries.
  • Difficulty with mining minerals from the earth.

We are Rotarians; we implement solutions.

What is a Peaceful Solution?

Increase the number of lithium-ion batteries recycled.

Why should my club do this?

  • Recycling to make a product ensures it will be used.
  • Partnering with businesses, youth groups, and other organizations builds awareness of Rotary.
  • Promoting the recycling event promotes the value of Rotary.
  • Engaging members keeps members.
  • Meaningful service attracts others to join Rotary.

Highlights

  • Event turnaround time - 4 weeks to 3 months.
  • Minimal costs - includes printing posters.
  • Templates for news, social media, and signage provided.
  • Collection boxes are shipped and returned for free.
