On World Polio Day, it’s good to notice that vaccines work
In 1946, the Minnesota State Fair was canceled because of a polio outbreak. Uncertainty was everywhere and no effective vaccine was yet available. Now, the world is on the verge of being polio-free.

A Literacy Project??  Click your District Literacy Website Page

Rotarians all know, promoting Literacy is one of Rotary’s seven areas of focus. With this in mind, the District Literacy Committee put together some helpful pages on our District website devoted solely to the discussion of Literacy and Literacy projects.  Whatever situation you find yourself in with regards to your club’s literacy efforts, the idea behind the website is to provide a centralized place for you to turn to.  Whether you’re looking for guidance on How to Choose a Literacy Project; Establishing Literacy Goals for your project; or just ideas from other District Literacy Activities the website is meant to be a helpful resource.

The District Literacy Committee is here to help develop these resources - - - the website is a good first step to connecting with ideas and other clubs.  You’re welcome to give it a try!   D5960 Literacy | District 5960 (rotary5960.org)

Lake Elmo Rotary Club is sponsoring a very special and sustainable international cause and are hoping to give other clubs in our district an opportunity to support that same cause.  A couple of years ago our club supported Medical Mamba and organization that provides nutrition to the communities in Haiti.  That same organization is now in need of solar panels to ensure that they have a undisturbed power source to continue to feed it starving/ undernourished population. If your club is interested in helping, contact Scott Phillips,Scott.R.Phillips@Lakeview.Org, of the Lake Elmo Rotary Club.

Rotary District 5960 Peace Fellow

May Htut Pann Moe
May Htut Pann Moe, Myanmar, and one of six candidates endorsed by Rotary District 5960, has been offered a Rotary Peace Fellowship.  She will be attending the University of Bradford, UK.  Pann is presently providing social support for people in Myanmar.

Five other candidates were endorsed by the district: Kimberlee Lee, Maggie Milland, Becca Buse, Isaak Mohamed, and Michael Himle.

Rotary Clubs are encouraged to invite them to their meetings and events.  They are all skilled, knowledgeable, peacemakers.  We hope to bring them into our meetings and events.
