AROUND THE DISTRICT

IT'S A ROTARY THING!
Welcome to month 3 of a glorious year. September always seems like the start of a new year. Perhaps that comes from having children and school starting in September or from years of running a string music program tied to the school calendar. Either way, September always seems like a beginning point, a chance to look back at the previous year and imagine the upcoming year, an opportunity to re-imagine where I'm headed. As we head into the Fall, I hope you will take a moment and look at where you are and where your club is, and look towards your future and all that is possible. Then go ahead, and take that first step. You've got this.

Have a great September. I hope to see you soon around the district.

 North Star Rotary
Youth Exchange Students

North Star Youth Exchange is excited to welcome our 44 students from over 20 countries this fall. We had our first IB orientation at the MOA on August 27th. Many thanks to the MOA for making this experience memorable for the IB students and their host families. What an excellent opportunity for sharing and learning together.

September is Literacy Month

The District Literacy Committee encourages all clubs to take some time during the month of September to recognize your club’s efforts and achievements in the area of Basic Education and Literacy.  Looking for ideas on how to celebrate and call attention to the needs of Literacy in your community?  The District Committee provides a number of suggestions via this link Celebrate Literacy Ideas! (Aug 19, 2022) (rotary5960.org) Make it a point to recognize this important area of focus this month!

ShelterBox is deploying an emergency response team to Pakistan, where more than 30 million people have been affected by severe floods. Pakistan has been overwhelmed by severe monsoon rains and flooding; the full scale of the devastation is still unknown.

They are calling upon our Rotary partners in District 5960 for financial support. ShelterBox encourages clubs and Rotarians to donate what they can, so they can reach families who desperately need our help.

The need is massive, and our response is critical. Homes have sunk in flood water or been swept away, livelihoods have been ruined, tens of millions are displaced, and more than 1,000 people have lost their lives.

Donations can be made at their website www.shelterboxusa.org or by mail to P.O. Box 5055 Santa Barbara, Ca. 93150
